Ksamil Travel Guide

September 24, 2026 · 6 min read

Ksamil is the crown jewel of the Albanian Riviera, a small village near Sarandë famous for its soft beaches, tiny islands and water so clear it is often compared to the Maldives and the Caribbean. It sits at the southern tip of Albania, a short hop from the Greek island of Corfu, and has become one of the country's most loved summer destinations.

The Beaches and Islands

Ksamil's signature sight is its cluster of small islands just offshore, close enough to swim or paddle to on a calm day. The main beaches are lined with soft sand and shallow, turquoise water that stays warm and calm, perfect for families. Arrive early in high summer to claim a good spot.

When to Go

June and September are ideal, with warm seas and thinner crowds. July and August are the busiest and liveliest months. May and early October are peaceful, with pleasant water and lower prices.

How to Get There

Most visitors reach Ksamil via Sarandë, about twenty minutes away by car or local bus. From Tirana it is roughly a four to five hour drive south along the coast. Ferries also connect Corfu to Sarandë in season, making a combined trip easy.

Where to Stay

Ksamil offers everything from budget guesthouses and family apartments to comfortable seaside hotels. Staying in the village keeps you steps from the beaches, while Sarandë nearby gives you more restaurants and nightlife.

Things to Do

Swim out to the little islands, rent a kayak or pedal boat, and take a day trip to the ancient UNESCO city of Butrint just south of the village. The famous Blue Eye spring is a short drive inland, and boat tours along the coast are a wonderful way to spend a day.

Where to Eat

Seaside restaurants serve fresh fish, grilled seafood, mussels and crisp local salads. Prices are very reasonable, and a meal with a sea view is part of the Ksamil experience.

Tips

  • Book accommodation early for July and August.
  • Bring water shoes for the rockier entries.
  • Keep some cash in lek for beach bars.
  • Combine Ksamil with Butrint and the Blue Eye for a full, memorable day.
